About
My hometown is Meerut, a flourishing town in Uttar Pradesh. Compared to others, (especially the Europeans), I entered the sport of cycling quite late, when I was 18 years old. But I was passionate about cycling, and my father also supported me, making my entry to the professional circuit easier.
In my childhood, I started with athletics. I used to run with my older brother but did not know if I could make it big in running. Another passion I had is traveling… to visit new places. I always found touring unknown places was like another adventure. And, on a bicycle, you can visit new places at practically no cost! This point of getting to see new places attracted me a lot.
Then, I saw my cousin’s brother (uncle’s son) started cycling on an advanced bike. That was when I decided to switch then from athletics to cycling.
It was in 2006-07 when I gave bicycle racing a professional thought. I knew that cycling has no fame, name, or money in India, but I always thought if youth like me don’t come to this sport, then how will it grow? Probably, cycling in India, at its nascent stage, needs dedicated youngsters like us.
